- Posted by Collector on April 6th, 2006
Just saw a blurb on the news regarding the
new Apple Macs will have an Intell chip...
which will allow one to run both MacOS and
Windows...but only one at one...
Benefits??
Drawbacks??
Please explain the point of this move...

New Macs have had Intel chips for several weeks now.
Apple has created a tool to allow installation of Windows XP and a
driver disc; it's reportedly easier to get installed than any typical
Windows installation.
When the system boots up, the user chooses which OS to use for that
session. It does not yet support simultaneous use of both.
The most significant technical part of this sounds like the emulation
of BIOS (the new Macs use EFI, which is a very different system).
The most significant thing this offers is that these users can use Mac
OS X, WinXP, Linux and Unix and others, and systems like Classic Mac
OS, Apache and X11.
What Apple has done is remove the uncertainty people often feel when
considering switching to Mac OS.
