New setup set hard drive to H:
Posted by JTJersey on March 17th, 2006

I just set up a new Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack II computer
and after getting everything up and running I realized that it had set my
hard drive to "H:" instead of "C:" I had a multiport card reader
installed when I did the setup and Windows just went by the alphabet with
the hard drive last. My DVD is drive "G:" Short of reinstalling is there
any way to get my hard drive to be labeled "C:" or is it even a concern?

The problem is that if you have subsequently installed programs onto this
drive they will be looking for whatever dlls et al they installed into
Windows at H:\Windows because the registry and their internal files are
recorded this way. There is no problem keeping things the way they are
unless it drives you crazy enough to start over. I have computers where
Windows is located on D, E or F drives--I never quite got up to H. They all
work stably.

Do a search for "manage" should come up as "computer management", go into
that, and then to, "Disk management" you can change the drive letter here if
you want. but as the other poster said, you could have a bit of trouble with
some of your programs, it might say that it cannot find it and the nearest
match is?? if that is what you want then click "yes" . Not really a big
problem.
