- New, USB Hard Disk not writing Help!

Hi, i recently purchased on ebay a IBM USB 6 GB hard drive:

Unfortunately the disk refuses to write and delete information upon it
despite been tried on three different computers.
More over, the disk makes a 'rattling' noise when attempting to write
Is the hard disk on its last legs despite being brand new, or is the
USB connector faulty?
