Raine,
Thanks for the post.
Today seems to be the day that this one has picked up the most steam,
and it's always good to keep a fresh post on it.
I firmly believe that many of the problems posted to this group today
regarding not being able to connect to Google are attributable to this
virus/trojan or a variant of it.

Got my knickers in a twist because I tried to warn you all about this
days ago, and got laughed at for my troubles, I DIDN'T have to report in
with this, but I did because I thought others should be made to be aware
of yet another threat to their computers. I don't care if it's a trojan
OR a virus, that's not the problem, the problem is it is yet another
thing to attack the unwary.
I thought I was helping, seems every time I do some idiot comes along
and laughs, well they can in future, Mike because I sure as hell am peed
off with it all. I have kept safe through all this, yet others haven't,
and I ask myself why, but the answer is clear, I LISTEN to what is
reported, others make a mockery of it, then wonder why they become
infected!
I've learnt one very valuable lesson with all this, and that is to keep
quiet.

There you go with the "you all" again.
I just looked through Google archives, and I don't see anybody
laughing at you.
"report in"? Report in, where?
That's great. The only thing I would suggest, is that if you
are going to post a warning about a new virus/threat, you
should include as much detail (web links, etc.) as possible,
so that people know where to look, and that it's not just
another scare tactic.
But you yelled that it was a virus - Microsoft said so....
So, I'm an idiot for informing you that it's a couple of days old?
I did not laugh, take the pee, deride you, or otherwise insult you.
I have, as have (probably the majority) many others.
You should only listen to informed, valid warnings. Hence my
mention about posting information.
Again, I don't see anybody making a mockery of anything.
Because of a perceived mockery?!?!
Is that you, Cassandra? You certainly have a *very* similar knee-jerk
type reaction to her...

I agree, Harrison, I reported it when I was told about it, had several
replies most of which were idiotic, I shall go back to my cave now, LOL.
Raine.

Cave? Osama...is that you?
I've seen enough idiotic responses from this group to not let it
bother me, and hopefully, you won't let them bother you either.
There are plenty of lurkers who read these posts and benefit from
them. Keep posting for their sake and ignore the detractors.

Oh Mike do we really have to go through all this word for word?
I did not call YOU an idiot. I was generalising.
I wouldn't call you an idiot, anyway, but there are several in this NG
that are!
Mike I *reported* in THIS NG about another threat, I wouldn't know where
to look for those idiotic postings, and right now I don't care about
them. You can take all I said and disect it as much as you like. I am so
new to the blasted computer and the terms used, up to 7 weeks ago I
thought RAM was a male sheep!
Who the hell is Cassandra? Is she British as well?
Good Night Mike. This Brit is to tired to be bothered with it all.

The US is upping the tarrif on computer crime, including hacking & virus
/ trojan writing.
From The Register -
"Mitnick, who spent almost six years in prison, has expressed doubts
about the deterrent effect of the tougher sentencing regime.
"The person who's carrying out the act doesn't think about the
consequences, and certainly doesn't think they're going to get caught,"
Mitnick told the Post. "I really can't see people researching what the
penalties are before they do something."
Personally, I would start with a *minumum* of 6 years & with a proviso
that the culprit would not be allowed anywhere near a computer for that
time, nor would have access to any IT magazines, books, etc.
