seem to be asking is to explain:
302 messages -> You have downloaded 302 messages or headers
293 unread -> You haven't read 293 of them
598 not downloaded -> You have only downloaded the most
recent ones and 598 are not downloaded.
Should you download them? I would, but them I am a curious
person.
Why should you download them? Erm, to read them?
This may be entirely wrong. Home-brew cider with green bits
floating in it have that effect on me.

What software is giving you this message? Some mail or news software? Read
or delete your mail and you will be fine.

Got any extra? It's rather boring here <g>! But yes, I think you nailed his
question okay.

Hey, I've been single so long, anything "green" in my fridge *must* be
health food, right?

Messages in Newsgroups (like this one) are not *sent to you*. They
are there on your news-server, available for you to read, or not. Some
newsgroups, depending upon which ones you go to, will have *thousands*
of messages. Read what you like; or don't.

ROTFL!!! Actually, except for the hamster, most all of that stuff *has* been
found in my fridge at one time or another ;o)
True story: I left Oregon for a two week vacation in New Mexico a few years
back. The circuit breaker blew on the day I left. Mid-summer of course. When
I got home the whole house reeked...I opened the fridge and ran out of the
house gagging. Went back in with the 55 gallon trash can, tossed
*everything* (yes, Tupperware included) in and left the premises long enough
for the air to clear <g>

yeah - if you want to work at it, you can get over 10,000 messages from this
newsgroup alone! I know...I did it once 1000 at a time <g>
