Check the headers; the server at the far right of the Path: header is the
one the article was posted to. Google for the name if you don't recognise
it already. I'm using Individual.net, which appears in Path: headers as
"uni-berlin".

Individual.net used to be best and free; now it's best and ten Euros a
year.

You get what you pay for... you can connect to some rinky-dinky NNTP
server in rural Germany that is bogged down with students dl'ing porn
for free or for $12 per month, you can have an easynews account. I
suggest the latter.

I use Verizon's (my ISP) for text and posting, and Usenetserver
(http://www.usenetserver.com) for downloading binaries. UNS is
$14.95/month, all you can eat, with excellent retention and completion,
and it maxes my connection bandwidth out.

I know. I use it.

My number 1 response corresponds to his first question. Only.

My number 2 response corresponds to his second question. Only. And I
asked "To do what?" because that's going to make a difference in any
case, even though I can't advise WRT a freebie.

That's why I numbered my responses; to relate each clearly to his two
questions.

What does usenetserver have that is worthwhile that Verizon groups
don't have. An inquiring mind would like to know.

I need an alternative news server as my ISP one is unusably slow during
evenings and weekends. If you email me your usenetserver id (leave off
the .invalid) I'll stick you down as the referer, if you want. I haven't
worked out what it gets you - but apparently it gets you something..

meg or better per minute when using Verizon's news. Not interested in

I used to use 4 or five copies of agent 1.93 working on different
parts of downloads to give me something similar but it was a bit of
work. Now it is much easier.
