Thanks again to all those who replied to my previous questions about slow
newsgroup downloads and quotas.
Maybe I should reiterate what I like to do. Firstly I am new to Newsgroups
and binaries. I just bought a newsreader called Agent and that program did
exactly what I wanted plus let's my view Yenc files. I click on
alt.binaries. newsgroups come back after a couple of hour and I have all
kinds of pictures and movies as well as mp3 downloaded on my computer. I was
not aware that my cable Internet Provider has a 5GB newsgroup download limit
per 30 days. They should tell people that when they sign up. Regardless,
after a couple of days my download slowed down to crawl speed. They had me
virtually dissecting my computer looking for nonexistent hardware and
software problems. It took four days before some knowledgeable tech at
earthlink was able to explain to me that after 5GB are downloaded from
newsgroups they slow you to 56K speed. So much for paying 45 Dollar a month
for high speed cable. I am sure my daily 150 spam messages are not affected
by this. (sarcasm) I can't see any other reason for having high speed cable
than to download stuff (pictures, movies, mp3). If after 5GB I am back to
56K modem speed I might as well forget about cable and go back to $9.95 a
month 56k modem and sign up with 4 different ISP. I bought all my programs
(Agent, RAR, ACdsee, Clipmate, etc) and don't want anything for nothing. All
I want is unlimited binaries newsgroup downloads, I AM WILLING TO PAY FOR
THAT SERVICE!!!!! How can a dummy like me go about this? Thanks
