Newtear Attack

I keep getting a message that my McaFee firewall has intercepted a newtear
attack. When I do a McAfee visual trace, the source is always
tvc.mi.chartermi.net. Can anyone tell me why and what this is?

Isn't that what a firewall is supposed to do?

Quite possibly a site that you've had contact with before that is pinging
your address to determine whether your address really exists.
If you don't recognise the site, let your firewall do it's job.
I don't intend any offence, but learn what the Visual Trace information
means & what you can do with it. If you don't, you're just going to confuse
yourself by running it.

In article <104i3c2pgdali6d@corp.supernews.com>, mwillrph@charter.net
says...
It is your firewall telling you that it thinks it saw a malicious activity.
It is telling you, "Look! I stopped this nasty from doing something nasty!
Ain't I grand!!!".

You need to learn to take your FW reports with a very large grain of salt;
or get a new firewall that doesn't present you with alarming details of what
could well be non-alarming activity.
