- No CD-ROM
- Posted by Lowly Engineer on November 14th, 2006
I'm running Windows XP Pro on a DFI "Lanparty NF-4U" motherboard.
I recently had to run Windows XP 'Repair' on my machine get it to boot
again.
When I was re-loading XP, it said it couldn't find a file.
Unfortunately, I didn't write down the filename. I mistakenly hit
<ESC> and XP continued to load.
Now, everything works EXCEPT there is no CD-ROM support.
BIOS sees the drive, but Windows does not. It is not even under the
equipment list in CONTROL PANEL.
Other info-
I have installed ALL Windows updates.
I have installed the latest N-Force drivers.
I do NOT have my original 'motherboard driver' CD-ROM
DFI support is non-existent.
What can I do to get my CD-ROM back?
TIA

is listed there.
If it is, and has a ! mark next to it, delete it, come out, and
restart your machine.
Windows should find the device, and install a driver for it.
If the DM shows the CD drive to appear OK, unplug\replug
the cables to your drive, and restart.
If that doesn`t work, you may have a faulty drive.
HTH.

The drive doesn't show up in Device Manager.
I disconnected it, and hooked it back up. Windows didn't
"discover" it.
I have proof that the drive works - I reloaded Windows using it.
I attached another (different brand) CD-ROM. Windows
didn't find that, either.
I seem to remember that I had this problem before when
I first loaded XP. I believe that the fix at that time was to
load the Motherboard drivers. Unfortunately, I don't have
that disc anymore.
Does ANYONE have a DFI "LanParty" NF4 motherboard
driver disc???

device, then try to boot your Windows CD.
How the hell you could re-install Windows without your
drive working, puzzles me.

No problem booting off the CD.
But Windows simply WILL NOT see it. There must be some Windows
ATAPI driver that I need.

Download this file http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip
Unzip it and merge the cdgone.reg file into your registry. That will
remove the existing registry entries for the CD drive.
Reboot the computer and this time Windows should detect the drive and
load the proper settings.
Notes:
1. Create a System Restore point (or registry backup) before you
merge the file into the registry.
2. If the drive is a CD burner you may have to reinstall your CD
burning software.
Good luck
