- No Drivers
- Posted by JS on September 20th, 2007
Hi,
A colleague of mine was trying to update his NVIDIA drivers - in the process
it told him he must first delete the old drivers, he did this but also
deleted alot of other drivers by mistake.
When you start the pc now the Windows xp screen comes up as normal & then
goes blank due to the fact I guess is that there are no graphics / display/
video drivers.
How & what is the easiest way to correct this problem.
We are a bit stuck unless I format the hard drive & re-install everything.
Help please.

Reinstall XP.
You should have an option to Repair Previous Installation, but in any case
you shold be able to reinstall XP without reformatting the hard drive.
The geeks at the shop would pull the HD and make it a slave, then plug it
into another machine and suck the files off, then reinstall XP and put the
files back on. If you have access to another machine with a large enough
hard drive, you should be able to do the same thing at home.
When you reinstall XP, you might run into issues with your software (Office
XP, et al, for example) that are no longer registered, and you would need to
do a reinstall of those programs/applications too. If you can repair the
installation, the registry should be okay, but if you are forced to
reinstall, then you may lose the current registry, and this would affect the
apps you have loaded.

Boot into 'Safe Mode' and in the main Safe Mode menu screen 'Enable VGA
Mode' as you are having problems with your display adaptor or monitor. In
this case Windows loads normally but the display is set to 640 x 480
resolution, which means you will get a useable desktop on just about any
screen. Option 5 'Last Known Good Configuration' is handy if your PC has
suddenly and inexplicably crashed. Windows launches using a previous, and
hopefully serviceable Registry and configuration settings.
