- No System Sounds XP
- Posted by Tee Jay on April 6th, 2008
On a clients machine system sounds stopped working. All is well in
Device Manager and Music plays though Winamp or Media Player. However
flash, Directx, and system sounds (startup and close et al) don't work.
They are not grayed out. They play with media player when accessed. Just
not as cues to activities. I have tried many of the suggestions from
Google. I have even formatted and reinstalled. There were system sounds
at one time and now there is not. I can't imagine how a registry error
could survive a reinstall. I have run scripts, codak repairs and driver
reinstall. Any helpful hints from the gallery?

I had a similar problem, all sounds on the internet and system sounds
stopped working. I found out that when I reformatted is was all fine, but as
soon as I installed winamp it started again. Winamp was the cause of my
problems. Uninstall it and see if this works?
