Yes.
If Norton 2005 does not properly install itself it will take down your
WinXP installation with it.
Believe it or not if the uninstallation does not complete properly you have
to download another program from the Norton site.
Been there, done that.
Better: if you can return Norton 2005 buy any other antivirus program.

I would second bmoag and return 2005 if you can. NAV is a pig of a program.
It slowed my computer down something terrible. The last good NAV is 2003
IMHO. I am currently running Avast. It is free and I like it better than
Norton as it does not have seem to have a bunch of useless fluff with it and
it does not bog down my computer.

Smart thing would be to remove it and load something else.

as it made startup soooo slow, I have now got AVG and Zone Alarm running
both of which take up less than 9 or 10 Mb and run very quietly in the
background but do their job superbly for free! and you get regular updates.
AVG also picked up a virus trojan that Norton missed! I also use both
Ad-Aware and Spyware doctor to illiminate spyware both or which are free too
from www.download.com

Save your money mate.
