- Nortons product issues
- Posted by Chris B on December 20th, 2005
hi all
Just wanted some opinions on Nortons internet security and personal
firewall.
Do these products cause issues with LAN settings such as file sharing.
I set up a wireless network with Win xp pro and Win xp home through a
Dlink wireless/ethernet dsl modem/router.
The internet comes through fine but the two computers (WinXP pro is
ethernet connection to modem/router) (winxp home wireless) cannot see
each other.
I have tried changing the computer names and workgroup then matching
the protocols with no effect.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Can't answer your question exactly, but I can tell you there are issues
with NIS in general. Time after time after time I see people's computers
with NIS that are infected with LOTS of viruses and spyware. And it
frequently slows down the computer to a crawl. On quite a few computers
I've cleaned up, it was Norton slowing down the computer more than the
infections. Given a choice between viruses and Norton, I'd take the viruses.

Definitely - as well as slow down your PC and Norton can cause other
problems like not compatibility with other software.
Uninstall it (just turning it off doesn't normally cure the problem), and
install a free anti virus such as AVG or Avast. Make sure the windows
firewall is turned on as well.
