- NTLDR Yet Again
- Posted by LDR on March 13th, 2006
Hi. Recently there was a thread on getting new system hardware to
accommodate an old hdd, by copying NTLDR detect type files from the XPOS
disk, via the repair function, into the actve partition. When I tried to
do so I kept getting messages the file wasn't found, even though I would
change disk to the i386 folder and could see it without any problem.
What am I missing, please, and thanks in advance.

NTLDR is just one of the files that needs to be transferred.
The other files are ntdetect.com and boot.ini.

understand my question: I cannot get the NTLDR files I need copied
because they are not recognized. In olden DOS days I would have a
similar problem, but I forget the solution. Also, I'm a bit vague as
to exactly what is the root partition. Would it be C:\windows\i386
????????? or something like it?
Thanks again and please don't think me unappreciative. As I said in the
beginning, I know I'm missing something.

Perhaps start again and explain exactly what you mean, or are trying to
achieve by;

Ok, and thanks. I am building a new computer, asus mb, athlon643200, 3
gigs of Corsair memory. I have been my own "screwdriver shop" since the
1980s, and every time I do it I have to reinstall Windows from scratch.
I never seem to get back my old hard disk C partition as I left it in
the old hardware configuration. I am aware the problem is because of the
NTLDR files but I never been able to replace the old ones from my
Windows os disk.
This time, I would like to get it, with your help of course.

Install old C drive in new pc, as master. Remove/disconect any other hd's
and dvd's leaving a single hd and cd.

or if you prefer
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315341
You will then need to install mobo chipset etc drivers. Then manu drivers
for any other hardware.
Do NOT rely on wnxp drivers or use winupdate drivers.
Basically the old hd contains details of the old hardware, this needs to be
updated with the details of the new hardware.
