Check your alternate newsserver/s to see if it is a newsserver problem.
Some RR clients can access RR newsservers which are not their own
geographically. Or you can access a non-rr newsserver.
Alternatively, you can reset your 'pointers' for the newsgroup which is
showing posts unavailable.
In the folder view, select the newsgroup with a problem, use R click or
File menu Properties/ Local file tab/ Reset button -- to delete all
headers and message bodies so that the folder will be reset and the
headers will need to be re-downloaded.
Then you will be looking at an empty newsgroup. A newsgroup empty of
headers. Use the Tools menu to get xxx headers, depending on how you
are configured; alternatively if you aren't configured to get next xxx
headers, you will get all the new headers. Naturally your 'pointers' or
marks for read and unread will be lost, but your OE's database will be
back in harmony with that of the newsserver.
If it is the newsserver's problem, there's nothing you can do about it
but access an alternate newsserver. If it is your OE's db being out of
'sync' with the newsserver, resetting the group's headers will fix it.

RoadRunner is apparently in the midst of farming out all/some of their
regional news servers, and going to out-sourced servers.
Check for some recent posts in alt.online-services.roadrunner
if you can get there.
You also may be able to change your server to
news-server.orange.rr.com
which seems to be available to RR users all over the country.
The Rochester NY servers haven't been affected yet.

Works for me. It even drops the IP posting host in the header.

For this group, I see some 38,000 posts available with Orange, and only
1,800 with my local RR server. Not bad retention, eh?
