Outlook Express Unable to Send & Receive

Unable to send and receive with Outlook Express in windows xp pro.

After uninstalling AVG Pro 7, I can no longer send or receive emails
in OE.

I get the following errors.

The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 5101, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'incoming.verizon.net', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 5100, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

For what its worth Verizon tech support checked and changed my OE
settings to no avail and offered no additional help. They stink!!!
Slow DSL, frequent outages and poor tech support.

Any ideas? Thank you.

Does AVG have email scanning? (I'm sure it does, BTW).

Check that the anti virus software isn't doing silly things with the ports.
I seem to remember a friend having similar trouble recently, was either
firewall or virus scanner related, can't remember which now.

It's not going to be your OE settings if they worked before, and you've not
changed them - It's something between OE and the net, ie f/w or AVG.

Any antivirus, or other utility, that screws up email settings
doesn't deserve to be on your system.

I fixed it!

1. I had to set the ports to default, 25 and 110.
2. Had to remove secure connection checkboxes.

Thanks to all for your help.

Big boos to VERIZON and AVG!

As I said, if it screws with your settings, get rid
of it.
