Printer driver for shared/network printer
Posted by Om_Audio on March 25th, 2005

I have a Canon PIXMA ip4000 printer attached via USB to my PC. My Mac can
see it and add it but it cannot load the right driver. I installed the
printer on the Mac as well then re connected it to the PC hoping that after
the Mac would be able to locate or display the proper Canon driver. Any idea
how to get the correct driver assigned to this shared printer?

Thanks,

Om

You daft tit. You just disqualified yourself from being worthy of offering
advice to others. The drivers on the Mac are looking at the [CENSORED], you
fucking nong. You will have to [CENSORED] the Mac's [CENSORED] to a
[CENSORED] on the PC.

Seeing as you fancy yourself as some kind of fucking tech-support guru, when
in fact you aren't, you can work the fucking rest out yourself, you fucked
up cunt.

Canon said this particular printer does not support cross platform network
printing. This makes sense as I have a client with whom we set up a shared
HP printer on a Win XP box. We can print to it from a Mac (OS X) with no
problem so it seems it is manufacturer based issue.

If your printer has PS support you should be able to install it. Just
use the Windows share name for the printer as the queue name on your Mac).

Yes I did. The Mac has no trouble at all browsing the network and finding
the printer inside the "add printer" dialog. It sees and uses the share name
just fine. The issue is that it does not display the Canon driver it wants
to use the generic post script driver. I installed the latest Gimp/CUPS
drivers last night and can now print to the printer using other Canon
drivers but with poor results- the print appears to be draft quality. What I
was wondering is why the Canon driver does not appear even though it was
installed locally to the Mac at one point. Maybe the driver must support
cross platform as Canon said it did not.

Thanks,

Om
