Problem with Adaptec Easy CD Pro 95
Posted by nemo on May 28th, 2006

I know Easy CD Pro 95 is out of the Ark but it's been working fairly well -
until yesterday that is.

Now, when I try to launch the program I get the error code -

"SCSI Initialisation failed. In order to run this program you must have
WNASP132.DLL installed and started. (Code 220-11-00-00)"

My CD Burner, an old Memorex, isn't even a SCSI device and usually I get
something like "No Compatible CD Drive found on SCSI Bus," then I close and
restart the program and it detects the Memorex drive which is an ATAPI
device, say so, and away I go.

Since my SCSI scanner packed up all I've had on the SCSI bus is an old JAZ
drive that doesn't work either. Might deleting this and the SCSI card from
Device Manager and physically removing them help?

I've removed and re-installed Easy CD Pro of course but it's made no
difference.

I found WNASP132.DLL on my C drive and copied it to all likely locations,
Common Files, various System folders, the Easy CD Pro folder etc. but it's
made no difference. Any ideas would be most welcome.

The PC is a ten-year-old Dell Dimension XPS H226 running Windows 98SE.

Thanks in advance,

Nemo

<snip>

I'd not only delete it from device manager...I think I'd remove it fromt he
machine entirely...

though you might have to uninstall your application then reinstall

Scroll to the bottom

Download ASPI Check Update. If your ASPI layer is bonked download
ForceASPI and install it.

Thanks but I've done that. As I said, no difference.

Because I actually have the file WNASP132.DLL, what I need is info on where
it should be located and how to get Easy CD Pro to recognise it. I've
re-installed Windows 98 and that's made no difference.

What's so frustrating is: I've been burning disks for ages using this very
old drive and software and this error came right out of the blue.

As I've just replied to Meat Plow: Because I actually have the file
WNASP132.DLL, what I need is info on where
it should be located and how to get Easy CD Pro to recognise it.

I tried re-installing Windows yesterday as well. Again, no difference.

Also bought a LiteOn burner. Nero also says it can't find a file but names
it as ?.? and to fix it and try again. A lot of help that is!

I'll try removing all trace of SCSI from the system and try again. All I've
got on there is a JAZ drive that doesn't work. (Did they ever work for more
than a few months? Bloody rip-off!!)

Hopefully, if there's nothing SCSI at all on the machine Easy CD Pro won't
go looking for it.

Adaptec/Roxio blows.
Get CDRWin (aka Goldenhawk) and forget about the other stuff.
This program is a marvel.

That's the simplest way out of this.

Sorry you had to go to all that trouble. I use Win95 and Win98SE
Lite on 2 machines with 2 LG burners and I've never had a
problem (well, I had to learn how to burn CD's of course, and
some coasters are unavoidable).

Check on the goldenhawk site whether the latest version supports
your new burner and if not, return it, goldenhawk will work fine
with the old one. On ANY Win OS.

Of course, you can spend another week screwing around with it...

Here's another carrot... Goldenhawk allows you to burn "normal"
WAV CD's with NO GAPS - or gaps of ANY length - between tracks
(provided the WAV files are *clean*).
AFAIK, only Feurio used to let you do that and they have been
out of development for a LONG time.

au:

I used Nero for a while and like many burning programs, it
APPEARS to have that facility, until you hear the results.

Also, I consider its logic and user-friendliness to be similar
to the following translation (coincidentally, from German):

In German:
Hingestreckt lockt dieses Girl zum Klamottenkauf oder doch zu
etwas Anderem?

In English:
Lures does this Girl hang-strain to the Klamottenkauf or
nevertheless to something different one?

Trying to use it was a nightmare. Every single time, I had to
click through a different sequence of about 10 different and
totally nonsensical screens and boxes to get where I wanted.
Nothing ever made any sense, and the program is a bloated pig.

The name and icon are stupid too. Apparently it's their idea of
incredibly clever. Too much they could not apply this cleverness
to the program operations.

Not to mention it installs well over 20MB of absolutely useless
garbage when CDRWin (from goldenhawk, there is another program
with the SAME name which is piece of crap) is a 1.3 MB exe and
does more than Nero ever could - as far as actual burning and
extracting. It's also faster.

It doesn't have the pretty XP icons, but AFAIAC that's NOT what
makes a program good.

Many thanks.

Tried it but it wouldn't recognise my ageing Memorex burner. I bought it
about eight years ago and it was an old model even then - that's why it was
cheap. Would it be worth trying any of the older versions of the software on
the site?

I did a search using WNASP132.DLL missing and one of the forums where
a guy had had the same trouble with Nero steered me here -

http://www.nero.com/nero6/en/WNASPI32.DLL.html

I downloaded their version of WNASP132.DLL, shoved it into my Easy CD Pro
folder, launched the program and the error had gone!

Their version is 160K BTW wheras my original is only 29.5, so I wonder if it
had got corrupted somehow.

Of course, I could probably get Nero and the new burner I bought to work now
but cash is extremely short and the £25 will be more use. I'll take it back
to dumb Argos and get a refund. At £25 it was a rip off anyway.

If it were possible to send Whisky via the Usenet it'd be drinks all round!

It certainly couldn't hurt to try, it's an easy DL and install.
Are you sure you did everything right? I don't KNOW of course,
but it SHOULD recognize pretty much anything, they've been in
business for a long time. Does it recognize the new drive you
bought? It was only like 30 bucks, right? So no big deal either
way.

You could also write and ask, they seem to be quite friendly.

There is also a remote possibility there is something wrong with
the setup of your hardware and that's why it doesn't recognize
the drive. But I can't help you with that.

Depemding on your specific burning needs (like WAV CD's or just
mp3 etc), there are some other very small and fairly well-
working programs, fireburner comes to mind, it has several diff.
versions, each one quite different from the others, which is
weird, but it's extremely simple and tiny and works well.

AFA the old versions of CDRWin, they have added some features
along the way but the program has always been pretty much the
same and very good.

Good luck.

Here's some ASPI instructions from Goldenhawk which you get once
you buy (not always needed but MAY help you).
BTW, you may have noticed the program installs its own ASPI
drivers and gives you the option to use those or the ones
already on the system.

Hey, just thought of this. Since I'm a reg'd user, give me the
EXACT model/serial no. of your Memorex drive and I will inquire
about it.
