- Problem with Internet Explorer 6
- Posted by confused on June 24th, 2004
Hi
Does anyone have a solution for a problem I'm having with IE6? Until
recently I could access Internet Options (via Tools) - but now I get
an error message which reads "Restrictions This operation has been
cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please
contact your system administrator." I work from home and never
connect to a LAN, so no system administrator. I haven't changed
anything recently except to upgrade from Office 2000 to Office XP
(legally - but it did come on a disc from my employer). I am using
Windows XP Pro. Grateful for any pointers.

No so, a standalone install still has an Administrator level account.
I get this sometimes, during loading of a slow page, a page that can't
be reached resultin in a DNS error, connection refused type of thing.
While waiting for the page using Tool / Options gives that msg. Clicking
Stop first then Tools/Options works.
If that doesn't work, www.google.com for -
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer"
You will be surprised now many times, this applies to a browser. With
the "" 631 hits and 67000 without.

You should set yourself up as an administrator.

My bet says you have SpyBot S&D or SpywareBlaster
installed, and have the IE control panel disabled in
the options of one of the above.

Hi Mike
Yes, I have SpyBot S&D - can't find options to enable IE control panel though.

I've just resolved this by modifying the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Internet
Explorer/Restrictions
and deleting 'NoBrowserOptions'
seems to have worked. Assume SpyBot S&D did this - haven't run it
yet, so it will be interesting to see what happens when I do.
