Problem with my backup power supply
Posted by Dog on February 4th, 2005

First of all I have a separate computer circuit for my computer and all
accessories, It is a special receptacle for computers only and installed by
a licensed electrician.
This is where the problem begins. When there is a power shortage or surge,
the backup power supply will let me know by a small ringing sound to let me
know there is something wrong and I have five minutes to save, restore and
shutdown my comp.
With everything running and I happen to go into another room and turn on the
lights this seems to send a signal to the power supply and then it starts to
ring and warn me something is wrong. I have run the comp with this ringing
going on for over a half hour at a time just to test the system and nothing
happens until I turn off the computer reset the backup power supply then I
turn back on until the next time. The Backup battery was replaced about one
year ago, anybody have any thoughts as to why this is happening ?

What kind of light? Is that light circuit on same phase as
isolated line or on other side of incoming 240 volts? What
does meter say about line voltage?

The UPS does not audibly report surges. It sounds when it
detects what is perceived as low voltage.
