Problem with Read Only files
Posted by Shirley Azvedo on October 25th, 2003

Before reformatting the hard drive, I copied all data to a cd. Then when I
copied the data back onto the newly reformatted hard drive, everything went
back on as Read Only. How can I keep this from happening? Or do I have to
go into each file and uncheck the Read Only box? Seems that is such a waste
of time. If you give instructions, please make them explicit as I am new at
this.

When you burn files to a cd they become read only. So when you copy them back
they carry their new attributes with them.
You don't have to do each file indivually, you can open a folder and select all
files and then change the properties as a group.

For the ones now on the hard drive.Ctrl+A to highlight them all/Right
click/Properties and remove the read-only attribute.
Before burning either .zip the files up or use Winrar,

as by default .rar files keep the folder structure as well as the
files.
