- problems accessing mail through Outlook Express
- Posted by hwhall on October 21st, 2003
I have been having problems connecting to my email through Outlook Express.
I have three accounts linked with Outlook, but only one is receiving and
sending mail. The others give me a message like this:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'sjr', Server:
'postoffice.worldnet.att.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 5100, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
And in my mailwasher program, the same problem is occurring, with a message
that suggests this problem may be the handiwork of my firewall software,
which makes some sort of sense. I have Norton Internet Security, and in the
six months I've been using it, there has been no shortage of sudden and
unexplained connection problems. I thought I had this fixed though.
Does anyone know any way to remedy this Outlook problem?

The PORT info looks wrong.. or at least, it looks like its been
translated to me... POP3 port typically is 110, yours shows 5100.
Yeah, firewalls MIGHT do that (some routers do). I would suggest
checking with Norton's website to se if this has already happened before
- cause lord knows, they NEVER screwup net connections. </Sarcasm>
