- Problems With MP3 Files?
- Posted by Dave on February 10th, 2008
I been having problems with playing mp3s transferred from my computer
to any mp3 player.
Basically, when played on my computer all is fine. But once
transferred to an mp3 player (iPod, Sony and Creative) the track skips
on the same points throughout.
Is there some setting I haven't checked when ripping from my music
CDs?
Any suggestions? Many thanks,

What you are obliquely describing has the characteristics of
MP3 header/tag incompatibility and/or corruption. It's specifically
a problem with MP3 files encoded with Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
and then transferred to a portable device.
It is a well covered subject online, just type into search the
following 3 different search criteria:
MP3 header repair
MP3 tag repair
MP3 tools
Also note, you won't be able to repair the files already transferred
to the iPod/Sony/Creative devices. You can only ensure further
transfers are "fixed" and compatible.

Are you saying that VBR files won't play on portable players or those
with screwed up ID tags?

Hey thanks for that, haven't yet done the searches.

Thanks for your help anyway.
