- processes in HKEY_LM\Run and HKEY_LM\RunServices
- Posted by Watcher of the Skies on July 5th, 2003
I have noticed that some of my background processes are (or appear to be)
started twice
Program : LoadPowerProfile
Filename : Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,loadcurrentpwrscheme
Loaded From : HKEY_LM\Run
Loaded From : HKEY_LM\RunServices
Program : Nprotect
Filename : C:\program Files\norton Systemworks\norton Utilities\nprotect.exe
Description : Norton Protection Status
Loaded From : HKEY_LM\Run
Loaded From : HKEY_LM\RunServices
although when I list running processes they only appear once.
Is it doing any harm (eg slowing down start up/ using resourses)?
Is it safe to delete either of the duplicated entries?
If so which ones?

This is normal, and should be left alone.
This is also normal. The 'services' are run before Windows actually
loads. Many applications like firewalls, antivirus etc. have service
modules that load before the GUI.
Services are not generally shown in running processes.
You can use something like Faber Toys to see a more complete
list of running tasks.

Everything uses resources, but it is not doing any harm.
No, leave them be.

Normal. No problem if you want those services/background apps running on
bootup.
