Processor speed???
Posted by Paul Mathias on October 22nd, 2003

Hi all,
i've just bought the following and upgraded my PC.

MSI KT4V-L SKT A 8X AGP DDR/Sound/lan/USB2.0 Motherboard
512MB DDR333 PC2700
AMD ATHLON XP2600+ 333MHz FSB
all bought from e-buyer.

I've installed all the gear but windows is showing my processor to be 1.15Ghz.
Anyone know why?

Cheers
Paul M

In the BIOS the FSB should be 166 and the RAM 166?
Unless there are jumpers on the mother board to et these speeds.

Paul Mathias bashed at the keyboard and said :

If you havnt got the manual it can be found here

or http://tinyurl.com/ryjl

The manual will tell you where in the BIOS you need to make the changes

Paul Mathias bashed at the keyboard and said :

No problem :-)

It's really quite self apparent once you get into the BIOS.
As "shep" says the FSB needs set to 166

It's possible you'll need to reset the BIOS. Follow the instructions in the
manual to do this.

I THINK you just pull off the jumper and put it in the secondary position
for a few seconds, then return it to its original state. Then, when you
install the processor, the BIOS should recognize it.

In installed the CPU in my machine, but failed to set the jumpers for the
proper speed. Even after setting the jumpers correctly, it still showed the
slower speed. The only way to make it show the speed properly was to reset
the BIOS.

Without opening up all the read messages in this NG and trailing back to
find the original query, I have absolutely no idea what the problem is.

If you don't quote, expect silence....

Only thing I can think of is if you enter your bios when starting 'setup'
and see if the processor is auto detect or manual

and on start up it shows a 2600XP Athlon processor but in Control
Panel>System>Device Manager it shows my CPU as being 2000MHz???

Paul Mathias said:

The 2600 in the AMD model number does not mean it is a 2600MHz.
I think it works out to approximately 80% of the actual number.
