processor speed problem
Posted by SEYMOUR on February 5th, 2006

my sons pc has a 2.0ghz amd processor
256mb ram
windows xp

he recently bought a new game but is unable to play it because the processor
speed is being reported as 1.2ghz not 2.0ghz and the game requires a minimum
1.4ghz

this misreporting is not a windows error as we notice that this is reported
right at the beginning of the boot up process before windows loads.

any ideas anyone?

thanks in advance

Check the timings in the BIOS. What motherboard is it?

m/b is k7s5a pro with socket a processor slot
processor is amd atlon i think--

the m/b handbook says that the bios will automatically deyect the processor
speed so there doesnt appear to be a jumper i can change.

the m/b supports amd athlon/xp/duron processors up to 2.6ghz

I don't think is to do with the cpu,I can run call of duty 2 on an old P3
600mhz,you certainly need more RAM and also maybe a decentish graphics card,

If the CPU is an Athlon XP 2000 then it should be running at 1667 Mhz
(12.5 x 133 Mhz) Check the BIOS, because if it is running at around
1200 then it sounds like the FSB may be set to 100 Mhz.
