- program ie shorcut problem
- Posted by Piccolo on July 29th, 2003
i just started running into a problem. When I click on a shortcut
that opens a webpage like No one lives forever 2 website link that is
installed with NOLF2, I get the error "There was a problem sending the
command to the program." I am running XP pro, and just finished
downloading the latest windows updates.

Hello,
Sounds to me as though the problem is in NOLF2. I suggest you e-mail their
tech support.
Just to test Internet Explorer create another shortcut to a different site,
close IE and then
use the shortcut and see if it opens and goes to the site.

Well, NOLF2 was just an example, it happens on the Splinter cell
program, my There game sign-in shorcut, my unreal II readme shorcut
(opens the readme in IE6). And many other programs.

Hello,
Well, that leads us away from installed programs and now we look at IE 6. I
don't know what OS you
are using, however if it is Windows 98 or ME I have heard these two have
some problems with IE 6.
If it is Windows2000 or XP I would suggest a visit to the Microsoft
Knowledge Base. This can
be quite difficult to troubleshoot. One user uninstalled IE 6 and reverted
back to IE 5.x and said
it cleared up the problem. You can do this in Windows 2000 but not in XP. IE
6 is the default in XP
but Windows 2000 installs Version 5 as the default.
I will also visit the knowledge Base and see if I can find an article about
the problem.
Meanwhile, someone else in the group may have the answer right off the top
of his/her head.

Problem still persists, and I have no clue as to why it is happening.
