Uninstall Norton Crashguard - it does not perform any useful
function, and actually causes more problems than it is supposed
to address.

Run scandisk.

Use DBXtract to try to recover any lost data.

Mike, I am running 98se and I have Norton Utilities 2002 with NU Crashguard
running in the background. I have never been all that impressed with it and
have had to reinstall win98 on several occasions. The reason I keep it
running is I thought it would be better than nothing and thought it would
help me stop getting a virus? Do you suggest I remove Norton Utilities 2002
from my computer or just CrashGuard?

The only thing I ever thought NU was good for was the
Disk Doctor, Speed Disk and the Norton Registry Editor.

It's up to you if you uninstall it, or not, but I *strongly*
urge you to disable or uninstall the CrashGuard - it is
the cause of many problems.
