Mike
Thanks for the reply. I have tried what you suggested, but upon rebooting,
the cheveron has gone and the option box is unchecked. If I then check the
regestry key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer]
"EnableAutoTray"=dword:00000001
The 1 has changed back to a zero. If I right click on properties, then tick
hide Inactive icons, the little cheveron will appear and all is ok. (and the
key changes back to a 1)
Is there a batch file to force this option, or is there any way to find what
"unchecks" the key?

If your registry is not being updated it may be indicative
of bad RAM. However, if you registry is being altered, then
I have no idea what could be doing it; you will have to do
some detective work.
