Simply make up "facts" or use facts from a source in the Lienix

IOW that equates to over 2 million installs of SuSE per year.
And that is just one distribution?
So where the hell is Linux?
I don't see it anywhere enmass.
CompUSA, Staples, CircuitCity etc.
Why aren't Dell, Compaq/HP/IBM/every other preload company offering Linux
right up front on ALL THEIR MACHINES instead of hiding it on their
websites?
Seems to me with a figure like you quote there is big money to be made in
Lienix.
So?
Oh, I see, those figures come from the Lienix community.
Ok, that explains it all.

No - it's a little over that. More like 2,555,000 a year, and increasing.

biggest):-)
No, and not quite.
Those figures come from Novell, and I believe that they are calculated on
the "Initial YaST On-line Update". They are probably quite accurate, in
fact.
Makes you think though, doesn't it?
One successful install every 12 seconds, and you reckon you've taken over a
day NOT to get it working - DO try to keep up:-)

"SUSE Linux is installed more than 7,000 times every day" - Geeze, you'd of
thought they'd of found out how to do right it by now.
I notice also it doesn't say how may of the "7000" installs actually stay
installed and are used. Lots of people I know have *tried* Linux, but none
of them so far have actually made the switch or regard Linux as anything
more than a novel idea.

How did you manage to bung up the installs so badly?
I'm by no means a computer expert, yet it's never taken more than an hour
to install any of the larger Linux distros and I've yet to have one net
detect or work with my hardware.
Somehow I can't see Suse loosing any sleep over this.

Yeah I bet 7000 times are from 100 nerds playing around with linux.
in general linux is installed more frequently that the users change thier
underwear!
Its kind of a sport installing distros to see how they are and formating,
then trying another...
Why? Because not even one of them is good enough to stay for long on the
disk!

Ubuntu indeed is on the right track...
It still needs work....
I WANT one distro to get it right.... I would love linux to be the great OS
it can be.
But the facts are that its not good enough for everyone to use yet.
That said.. I have downloaded ubuntu in the past... and downloading the dvd
5.1 version of Kubuntu.

Some of use like to use our PCs for more than just email, internet and word
processing. Things like audio and music recording, editing and Cd burning;
video capture, editing, MPEG (divx/xvid) encoding, DVD burning; scanning

were talking half an hour for an A4 as opposed to about 10 minutes in
Widows??); DTP.. etc. etc. etc.
Now, I'm fully aware there *are* programs that allows me to do most of the
above (except scanning, Linux never has supported my scanner), but the
quality of these bigger applications pails in comparison to the Windows
equivalents.
And if you compare the 'feel' of most Linux applications compared to the
Windows equivalents, Linux seems cheap and tacky - screen redraws and
general graphic refresh is very notably slow and flickery, audio has
annoying delays and - at least on every system I've had Linux on -
distorted and clipped..there's little in the way of feedback when
processing in going to take more than a few seconds (just try Krita with a
8mpix digital camera image - half the time you think the program has
crashed).... and I could go on (and on and on).. but I wont.
Oh, and then there's the "fun" processes of trying to get things like Flash
Player working in both Firefox and Konqueror...

I've had 3 tries at ubuntu now mandrake is going back on.
Only reason I tried unbuntu anyway was because I installed it on a
networked machine and it went on so easily. This one is at home
though.

7000 installs a day of GNU/Linux and windopes are nowhere to be seen.
Dum dums from windopes corner are learning to type.
Available in stores cheaper than windopes in wallmart
UK as well... 129.99 pounds + VAT

Don't go there to buy decent PCs on the cheap them.
Give those stores a miss.
Give those vendors a miss.
Go for the new wave of vendors that supply GNU/Linux machines
like e-machines.
Seems like you pay over the odds now to get hold of a windopes computer.
Pay 129.99 for a computer with Linux, or pay 399.99 for a windope PC?
No way.
So!
Yes - hundreds of liveCDs here folks
http://www.livecdlist.com
All free with source code to boot up your PCs with
alternative operating systems to securely send and receive
emails and do all your web browsing.
You can run many of these off of your UBS flash disks
and SD-Cards and MMC cards. Then you can take your
files and work with you whichever computer you happen to
log into.
