Reinstall XP problems
Posted by SS on January 14th, 2006

I reinstalled XP home recently (full) but found it still left files on the c
drive. No problem but I thought all old files would be cleaned off - I used
the full reinstall rather than the repair option. Now at boot up i get an
option to load one of 2 operating systems - both XP home and appear
identical but there is a 30 second countdown to select and this is
annoying - how do I cure this problem?

In news:T_9yf.595$C7.202@newsfe3-win.ntli.net,
SS spewed forth:
Before you fix the problem, are you sure you don't have two separate
installations of Windows on your hard drive? If you had done the re-install
correctly, you would have deleted the original partition, leaving no files.
If you didn't delete that partition, Winows might be installed twice -
wasting space, causing possible confusion in the future.

If you DON'T have two installations of Windows, you can fix the C:\boot.ini
file. Either edit it manually, or run msconfig.exe and click on "boot.ini"
tab, then the "Check all boot paths" button.

You need to do the new install or restart your computer and install from
there.
