Sata and ide drives ???
Posted by fastmoggy on November 23rd, 2005

Just building a new computer using the Gigabyte 915G which has the option of
either using an IDE or a SATA drive which ive bought
Can i use both types on the same motherboard?
The reason im asking is that the IDE drive is at the moment my main onboard
backup disk which id like to use on the new computer.

Now all i have to do is not to drop the P4 CPU when i try and open that
plastic package like last time and watching it spring into the air and hit
the floor bending around 40 pins!
Funny thing was that even though were told all about how delicate these
things are with static discharge ect ect, i Thinking it was dead i just
tried putting a metal knife down the row of pins to straighten then and plug
it in the board anyway and the thing worked! Just jammy? well this time im
opening that dam box at floor level LOL

There should be no problem - but I would install the SATA drive first,
install the OS, and then add the IDE drive (checking in the BIOS that the
SATA drive is earlier in the boot process) - and only then Activate Windows
(assuming that's what you're installing).

No problems as she is now 80% built. The CPY has no pins on it so no way
could i repeat my last attempt!
As for the sata and ide question
the motherboard came witha cable that connects ide drives direct to the sata
inputs so i shouldn't have a problem
unless I drop the who box this time!

Cool, huh? I did one of those last week. Had a bear of a time getting the
cooling fan to latch down to the mobo though.
