- Screen problem
- Posted by me aul triangle on November 13th, 2005
I don't know if anybody can help here but if so, I would greatly appreciate
it (or told where to look). For the past while my monitor screen has been
acting up. If not in use for a while (as little as 10 minutes) the screen
begins to flicker. That's the best way I can describe it anyway. It's very
difficult to work with photos as there are little flickering white lines all
over the screen. When reading text, they are black lines or dots coming from
the letters printed. It is most annoying and I wonder if the monitor is past
it's sell by date (It's less than two years old). I cannot find the manual
and all I know is that it's got a CTX symbol on the front of it.
thanks

If you power it off for a moment, and turn it back on, does it go away?
Do you have any equipment in the vicinity that might be causing interference
(cordless phones, electric heaters, etc.)?

Could be on the way out.
You could try lowering the number of colours displayed if possible. I
had a monitor which did similar things when set to 32-bit (4 billion
colours). In 24-bit (16 million colours) it worked OK.

First change the monitor for a known good one, alternatively connect the
monitor to another PC.
Either way the objective is to see if the fault is the monitor or the PC.
If the fault goes with the monitor have a tech check it over for dry joints
etc.
CTX are regarded as a 'budget' brand so don't spend to much on it.
If the fault stays with the PC then look at the graphics card.
Plug in another one is the easiest test.
Best luck
Paul.
