Slow internet Explorer opening
Posted by Hushup on September 15th, 2005

Could I please ask for some help ?
My Internet Explorer Version 6 has suddenly started to open very slowly.
This has been noticable since I started using Broadband.
I have tried running adware removal and Spybot - also defrag - but it still
takes ages to open.
Anyone who could offer an explanation and a cure please ??

Thanks
John

It may be in conflict with your old dial up connection, mine was , when I
finally scrapped all dial up files and bits the thing ran much much faster.

Switching from dialup to high-speed can open up problems that were already
existing on your pc and also you now have a faster always online connection
which also lets in more problems. However, I'd be hard pressed to give up my
broadband.

If you were using an ISP like AOL who basically advertises that they block
all spyware, which they do through their browser, however when you graduate
to High speed you tend to use a browser like Internet Explorer all the
spyware has been accumulating from your aol connection but could not cause
problems due to the you using their browser.

Its Kinda like walking pneumonia. Now that you are using ie, your getting hit
will all the spyware, virus etc that may have been dormant.

High speed also is on all the time and your now networked with many in your
isp. You need firewalls, this will help with spyware. Spyware sends a
cookie to your pc looking for information, most not malicious, however can
bottleneck your pc which causes it to slow and stop browsing. After the
cookie gets to your pc, it attempts to send the cookie back to its server so
it can read the information it requested. A firewall blocks this, so the
offending server never gets its retuned cookie therefore will not send you
spyware, cause it has no clue on what to send you and is eternally waiting
for that info.

I would suggest you do all your windows updates, add a firewall and get a
good product like webroots spysweeper to keep that pc clean (which rarly
gets hit, but does on occation so I back myself up). Oh and by the way a
hardware firewall is the best. That's a router with a firewall included. XP
has a firewall, which helps, there are great firewalls like BlackIce that
will do a PC good.

knock on wood, I've had very few problems since I've put up my defences.

Hope this helps.
