slow working lan
Posted by Damir G on November 3rd, 2003

I have a lan and 3 computers. It's like this:
Internet<->PC1(Linux)<->Switch(LevelOne)<->PC2&PC3(win)
I use crossover cables and my network works very slow. PC1<->Switch is
connected with straight through cable. All cables are utp cat5. I get around
100-500KB/s. I have to reattach a cable to the switch to get 5MB/s, or
sometimes even that won't work. Would you know what is the problem? I had a
bit similar problem when I had 3 ethernet cards in PC1 and PC2,3 connected
directly so I bought a switch and the results are even worse because if I
get over 4MB/s, its max 5MB/s and not 8-9MB/s like before.

The model of switch is FSW-2108TX
It says it has auto MDI-X at all UTP ports.
I don't know what that means... Some other models have Auto-MDI/MDI-X and
MDI-II,MDI-X switches for all ports

(NIC, router etc.) or a cascading device (another hub). By using a crossover
cable with a NIC card you are confusing it to say the least.
