- Start Outlook Express automatically at system startup

Is there a way to get Outlook Express to automatically open during system
start up? (winXP) I need to be able to get my PC's IP address from another
PC in order to gain remote access, and the only way I found to do that was
to have a message rule in Outlook to auto reply with a message. Then I can
get the IP addy from the message details.

Well, if you want OE to start automatically, just drop a copy of the OE
shortcut into the "startup" menu folder. But if you want to get your IP
address, just open a command-prompt window (DOS window) and type "ipconfig"
and press enter. It will give you the status of your local IP for your LAN
(ethernet), or dialup (PPP adapter).

How about merely starting an IM program when windows starts, and obtaining
the IP from user details. The prefs must be set to allow reporting of the
IP.

I'm not sure. ICQ will show an IP, Can't tell you how, offhand. (none of
my ICQ contacts are online)

www.homedns.org
this will assign a "static" hostname to your computer's IP, even if it
changes.
