STOP error
Posted by GoodTimeJake on January 9th, 2005

One of my computers made a pop noise and went dead. I was transferring a
large system backup from one hard drive to another at the time. (There was
NO virus protection installed on the HD) When I fired it back up it almost
started my Win 2000 Pro then up came a screen with an "Stop Error". I
removed those HDs and tried another HD. Same thing. I've tried this
several times once with a brand new HD that I formatted on my other machine.
Everytime same thing. Once these HDs are installed on that computer they
can not be used to boot any computer until I reformat them and reinstall OS.
I can however set them up as a slave and access them on my second computer
but the boot ability is gone until they are reformatted.
Any Help with that???
Jake

If you really heard a POP it's a good chance you blew a capacitor.

If he heard a loud POP then it's not likely a hdd issue.
