Can anyone tell me how to fix a blue screen error on an XP machine that says
"Windows could not start due to the following error: System 32 could not be
found"

Thanks

It sounds like something major is damaged in the operating system inside of
the system32 folder, or the system32 folder is corrupt. You may have to
re-install windows. You could try using the repair facility on the
installation disk before completely re-installing Windows.

Think Jana's right... something might be wrong with your
windows/system32 directory.

Download a Win98 boot disk http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm (OEM) and
create a boot disk.

If you have a NTFS file system download NTFS4DOS
http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloa...rogramid=11100
Install it to a working system to create an install disk (it writes to
your win98 disk)

Boot up with the bootdisk and look around your system - hope your
similar with DOS commands.

Brandon

Sounds like one of the hives in your Registry has got corrupted.

This KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/ gives you
instructions on how to replace corrupted hives with one's created at the
time XP was installed to get your machine going again.

I have used this method and can confirm it does work, but (ain't there
always a but) it may break a lot of your installed software.
It is usefull however for getting your PC going well enough to do a full
backup of your personal data.

A format and reinstall is recommended once your data is backed up.

Best
Paul.
