This a box that we have been resurrecting over the past week. It is a
Gateway 2000.
It now has a reformatted hard drive and all the basic s/w reinstalled.
everything was going just fine (thanks to suggestions on this NG). The owner
just installed 128MB to add to the existing 64MB and now the box gets as far
as the Desk Top and shuts down and then restarts into an endless loop.
The OS is Win98.
I am aware of Blaster but do not find any reference to Win98 only XP and
2000 etc.
This user is totally naive and does not have either an up to date virus
tool or a firewall. He is on MSN dialup.
There has been an intermittent problem with this box shutting down
immediately on power up, but when it does it does not restart automatically.
Is there another bug floating around that could cause this?
Suggestions please.

Charlie Bress tried to scribble ...
I'd guess this is either a bad ram stick, or incompatibility between the 64
and 128 stick ..
It really doesn't sound like a software error, though it may help to try
right clicking the desktop - properties - Performance and making sure that
'Windows manages memory' .. Sorry, I forget exactly where and how to do
this, I don't have a W98 box running at the moment ..

Remove the RAM that has just been added, and see if the
problem persists, or not. The box may need matching
RAM modules.
