- Tables in Word
- Posted by Seven on July 20th, 2004
I'm working with a lot of tables in MS Word that require a lot of data to be
copied and pasted in many different locations within the tables.
Unfortunately, whenever I do this, the table right and left edge borders go
out of alignment and no mater what I do I can't get them to line up neatly.
Anyone know how to solve this problems as I'm spending more time trying to
fix borders than typing in what I'm supposed to be doing.
TIA

Seven typed:
Ignore it and format later ..
Use Table - Autofit - Fixed column width ..
There are a number of ways to help this 'feature'.

Try the help function in Word (F1 key). Select the Index tab and type
'table' in the 'Type keywords' box. Select "Resize all or parts of a
table' and you should find the answer to your question. You may find it
helpful to check out the first entry on the screen that follows ('Learn
about tables') to refresh yourself on the terminology.

Thank you for these suggestions, but I've already tried all this. I've put
controls on, taken them off, wrapped, unwrapped, auto-formatted, unformatted
etc.......
It seems to be some quirky thing in Word that when you copy and paste a
row(s) from, another page, they never seem to line up on the left and right
edges, even though the margins are set and the more you try to fix it, the
actual cells can shrink very small or disappear off the end of the page
Using Word 2003 and had the same problem in every previous version of Word.

Is it impractical to make the tables in Excel and then insert them into
the Word doc?
