- transferring software from floppy to CD
- Posted by Geoff Pearson on July 22nd, 2003
I have several sets of (legally-owned by me) software on sets on floppies
(for example, Publisher 97 on 9 disks and Word 97 on 18) which I would like
to back up to CD, ideally so I can reload/reinstall them when I rebuild the
machine from time to time.
Clearly I can copy the disks over but when I try to install from the CD the
machine looks for the next disk on the A: drive not D:. Do I need to rework
the inf file, or what, to do this? I can't see references to A: in the inf
file.

Generally you would copy each disk into a folder named disk1, disk2, ...
diskn.
There is no guarantee that will work for those apps, but at least you will
have a bacup if a disk decides to go south.

I've done that but that does not enable an install - it wants an A: drive.

What he's saying is you have a backup on CD. All you need to do is transfer
to a floppy if your original floppy is screwed.

by copying the contents to individual folders
if you do end up having to recreate the floppies however
if the disks are the 1.7 meg distribution media type
you can use the win image utility to create them
