TTY?

Can you just get TTY software and do TTY through a regular modem from your
PC, or do you need a special device?

TTY means different things to different people. What are you trying to
do?

If you mean the TTY for deaf, you need a special device because the TTY
Baudot tones aren't the same as modem tones.

Yes, I'm about 35% hearing impaired anyway and it would be nice to be able
to send messages to companies that advertise TTY instead of straining to
hear them on my hearing impaired phone anyway.

To the OP: check your phone book, they should have a number you can
call to set you up.

I've got an old (old, old) Model 15 TTY unit out in the garage right
now. I haven't fired it up in years. The last time I used it, I had
forgotten just how noisy those things were. :-)

Move to a quadrant - wait for a sector print out. It took a while, and
reams of paper

I wonder if you can even *get* paper for those things anymore. :-)
I don't even know why I've held on to the old piece of junk, except
it must be the packrat part of me that says: "I might find it useful
someday." My wife has given up on me when it come to pitching out
stuff. Unfortunately, I throw out stuff like my old baseball cards
and comic books, which, if I had hung onto 'em, would be worth a tidy
sum, and keep totally worthless junk. Oh, well.
