Unknown icon on taskbar
Posted by West Stand Bowler on November 8th, 2005

For some time I've had an icon depicting a picture of a desktop machine
(or monitor) with what looks like 2 yellow stars top left and top
right.(on the taskbar)
Left or right click on it does nothing ?
This isn't on the right hand side with the clock, volume control etc,
but on the left hand side.

Any ideas?
Am running windows xp on a laptop.

Cheers

Two stars would indicate that either a Major General or Rear Admiral (upper
half) is in the building...

Try dragging it to the desktop and deleting it from there.

Can't drag it. This icon is the same size as this group name at the
bottom of the screen. Right next to Start. Is that still the taskbar?
Cheers for the reply.

Try reading the original post again and see if you can spot why your advice
won't work.

If it's in the Quick Launch toolbar then you can find these shortcuts as
follows:

Start

Run

%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\

That will show you the folder containing the shortcuts - see if you can
delete it from there

Right click on a blank area of the taskbar, and uncheck "Lock the taskbar".
Now try to drag it out of the Quick Launch.
