- USB Problem with users
- Posted by Vitor on November 21st, 2006
Here is an odd problem:
Plug a usb pen in as admin on a PC and it seems to work OK, plug the
same pen in as a user and it doesn't show up in my computer.
However, try again as admin and it doesn't show up in my computer even
though it appears in the computer management mmc and if you were in dos,
you can browse it.
I've added the user to the power users group but that has not solved the
problem, I ve reinstalled the usb drivers too.
The machine is XP joined onto a Win2000 domain with all updates on.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

This "problem" comes up quite regularly on
microsoft.public.windows.group_policy, microsoft.public.windowsxp.general,
microsoft.public.windows.server.setup et al - it may be worth a quick search
through their archives.
From what I recall it is a feature rather than a problem and requires a new
user group or group policy object to be implemented if you want to change
it.

You need to configue your Windows Explorer Folder Options to show hidden
system files, at least temporarily. Then plug in your [any removable memory
device]. And see what ya see. Get Properties, that'll give ya dates, and
then you know what you need and what you don't necessarily want.
It's all about choices.

To me, truth is not some vague and/or foggy notion.
Truth *is* real! And, at the same time - unreal.
Fiction and fact and everything in between...
Plus some things I can't even remember -
all rolled into one big "thing."
This is "truth," to me.
