User Can Not run MMC Plugin errors include Group Policy, Password, and AD
Posted by BEM on September 22nd, 2005

So I have a user who has a problem running enterprise manager. She is a
developer and up untill midday yesterday didnt have any problem
accessing enterprise manager.

When I arrived at her machine to look into the situation I found the
errors below in the event log. I asked if she has installed any apps
recently, where i work all devs have full admin rights to their own
machines. I know thats a very bad practice but its all about politics.
According to her she has not installed any new software or changed
anything.
She also randomly looses her ability to connect to samba and windows
shares on the network and reboots to fix the problem. I dont know how
old that issue is she said she has been doing that for a while.

At first I though it was a SID issue so I ran NewSID.

That Did not work so I renamed her machine manually removed it from the
domain, then recreated the machine with a new name in the domain.

I logged in as me and was able to run enterprise manager.

She came back to her desk logged in and still could not run enterprise
manager. So one of the errors lead me down the password path I had her
reset her password. still no dice.

Something in her local profile keeps her from talking to AD.

Anyway here are the error messages.

It is possible that something in her main account on the server is corrupt.
Delete her account completely, and then rebuild it from scratch. To first
test this out, make her a new user account under a new name. You just have
to put a number at the end of her new name for the test, or if it works you
can leave it that way if it does not bother anyone. If this works, then you
know what the base problem is.
