using parts from old computer
Posted by minicooper on August 8th, 2003

my pc's motherboard got fried, and i don't want to spend money trying to
find out if the hard drive is ok. a friend said she could use my internal
zip drive and asked how much i'd want for it. i have no idea. i had this
computer rebuilt in '99 and the zip cost me $89. i'm looking at my bill,
where i spent $878 to have this old acer rebuilt. maybe i already got my
money's worth . should i be nice and just give her the computer as a gift?
tia.
p.s. - this newsgroup is always so full of great info; thanks!

"So, Mr Slumpy you *really* are the perpetual comedian, aren't you ?" I
threw back my head and roared with laughter as minicooper continued:

You can find out if the HDD is OK free of charge with the machine you are
using easily enough. As for old parts, they are obsolete as far as shops are
concerned and their value is negligible. If you can afford it, or if she has
nice tits, give it to her.

sure i'd give her the zip drive... it's not really worth much anyway
but if you end up giving her your whole machine i;d pull the harddrive
out...
it may very well be good and then she'd find out all your personal info

additionally, you may wish to save some data from it when you get your
new machine...
but i guess that's up to you

Give it away. The $ value is zilch.
