- Using USB flash drives with windows 98?
- Posted by SS on April 15th, 2006
I am considering bidding on Ebay for one to transfer data between my Windows
98SE and XP machines. XP will 'recognise' the drive but will it work on 98?
Is software needed?

It should work, but will require drivers. Simply put, the technology didn't
exist when W98SE was written, so drivers must be added to compensate.

Would this be a generic driver or specific to a particular model of flash
drive? i.e. if I bought one and there was no driver could i download
something from the net?

I have been using flash drives for a while. I found that with 98 and ME,
they not all worked very well. You would have to try it out to know.
For 98 and ME, you will need to go to the web site for your flash
drives, and get the drivers for it.

All drivers are device specific...where have you been living? Just be sure
when you buy your flash drive that it comes with the drivers for W98.
