Virus scanning question
Posted by Jimi on August 17th, 2004

At work we have a small network of 8 users, all have there own norton
antivirus software.
Sometimes the scheduled virus check fails to initialise itself.
This means pratting about re-scheduling etc.

Does anyone know if there is antivirus software on the market, that can be
run from a single pc, i.e a server
and can scan across a network.

This would be a great idea.

Thanks from any advice.

Put NORTON on the server. Then put a shortcut on the desktop on all computers
(except server) to "X:\PROGRAM FILES\NORTON ANTIVIRUS\NAVW32.EXE". Replace X
with server drive name. Right-Click Start Menu and choose Open. Go PROGRAMS
then STARTUP. Create 2 shortcuts there to "X:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON
FILES\SYMANTECH SHARED\CCREGVFY.EXE" and ""X:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON
FILES\SYMANTECH SHARED\CCAPP.EXE". Reboot.

You'll want an AV solution that runs on the individual machine and deals
with protecting that machine alone, dealing with the malware on the machine
if found. If an AV solution fails to work in the manner you want, then I
suggest you find another solution that does. All of the top AV solutions
have full version trial-ware you can try for 25 days or more.
