- VIVO or HDTV card?
- Posted by (Just) Allan on December 7th, 2005
I purchased a new computer system and asked for a video card that I
could use to convert analog video (from a VCR) to DVD. They fitted a
Radeon XR600XT. The manual seems to indicate this card does not have
a video in, only video out. It also seems I need a XR600XT-VIVO.
Does anyone know if this is correct? Also...
I plan to buy a HDTV card. If the store won't swap the standard
Radeon card for a VIVO one, do HDTV cards have analog video in? (This
way I wouldn't need to change the Radeon card.)
Thanks for reading...
Allan.

If you have non-digital cable you can use a TV tuner card. Alas they do not
always work as advertised.
Outputting from a video card to a television can also generate unwanted
interference in the TV image, a crawling line due to a ground loop.
I believe that a TIVO type device is the best options. Most cable/satellite
outlets will give you one virtually for free if you only have non-hdtv.
The hdtv tivo gizmos cost many hundreds of dollars and have to be specific
to the signal provider as they are essentially a converter box and a
recorder with two tuners.
