- Why is my computer so slow!?
- Posted by John on April 14th, 2004
Can you kind people help me out? I'm no pro and the closest one up
here is 200 miles away. I'm barely computer literate, so I need a list
of possible reasons why my machine is so slow. To be as brief as
possible...My first computer was a 6 gig, 400 Celeron.I thought it was
slow. An ex friend talked me into replacing it with a new one a year
ago. A 40 gig 1.8 ghz Pentium. I assumed it would be at least 4 times
faster. No way! Same slow speed. I have done everything I can think of,
but not being up on these things< I may have missed something.
I clear my system tray as much as I can...
I use system tools, like Defrag, weekly...
I use other programs like TweekUI and FreeRam...
I removed all rarely used programs...
And I have noticed something else lately. When I right click on any
file, sometimes it takes as much as 10 seconds for the pull down menu to
appear!
I recently heard that you have to have the operating system on a
seperate drive. Is this true? I have several Gigs of picture files and
mpegs and mp3s on the same drive as WinXP. Is this a problem?
Please any responce welcome. I need a professionals' short list of
solutions.
Thank you all.

Maybe something here might help. I've found it a great help. Sorry I'm
barely computer literate myself so this is all I can suggest.

Install it, run it. See if that helps any.

Take extreme care with a blind link to an executable file - you don't know
what it is. If you could hang fire until the poster Ava is willing to use
www.makeashorterlink.com, which displays the real url for a few seconds
before it takes you there, you'll be much better off.

Good advice. The link points to the http://www.pgware.com site and
more precisely the download link for PCMedik6.
